Warmblood Fragile Foal Syndrome

We are nearly ready to offer testing for Warmblood Fragile Foal Syndrome.

WFFS is a bit like HERDA, but in Warmbloods: it is a defect in the skin means that it is weak and easily torn. Skin on the legs is most affected. A really severe instance of WFFS in the literature describes a foal born with large tears and missing skin over a substantial portion of her body – it sounds truly horrible.

The good news is that WFFS seems to be very rare. We’ve decided to offer testing anyway for breeders that want to be cautious. This disorder has been reported in both Europe and the USA, and we know that Warmbloods here in Australia make extensive use of imported semen.
