How do we improve a test? Mostly we tweak it to improve the sensitivity or robustness. We want all our tests to work perfectly with tiny amounts of DNA. We also want clear and accurate results no matter whether we use a small amount of DNA or a large amount. The end result for people who test with us should be that it’s more likely that you’ll get your result quickly, because we won’t need to repeat the test to make it work.
In the case of the grey test, we have opted for a complete redesign. Our previous grey test had problems with the primers (a vital reagent) constantly going off. Ordering a new batch of primers would only result in the same problem occurring again a little later. The new grey test is extremely sensitive and robust, and with any luck we will never have to order our problem primers again!
