Our roan test is a marker test. This means that rather than testing for the mutation that causes roan, we test for a genetic variant that’s strongly associated with roan in a number of breeds. Hopefully in the future we will find and be able to test for one or more actual roan mutations.

We have found a QH bloodline where this marker test does NOT work: roan descendants of Chips Blue Stock. Apart from that it seems to be working well. If we find more exceptions we’ll make sure to post them too.
